Exact age (Y / M / D)

Your age broken down into complete years, remaining full months after those years, and remaining days after those months. This is the standard way ages are reported on passports, driver’s licenses, and legal forms.

Total months / weeks / days / hours

Your age expressed as a single running total in each unit. Useful for milestones (“I’ve been alive 10,000 days!”), parenting (“my baby is 87 weeks old”), and simple curiosity. All calculations are exact — they account for leap years and varying month lengths.

Next birthday countdown

The number of days remaining until your next birthday plus the exact weekday it falls on. If today is your birthday, we say so celebratorily.

Western tropical zodiac uses 12 solar-month signs from Aries to Pisces. Chinese zodiac uses a 12-year animal cycle. Both are automatically detected from your birth date using widely accepted date ranges.

The math behind an exact age calculation

An accurate age calculator can’t just subtract years. It has to handle month boundaries, varying month lengths, and leap years correctly. Our calculator walks through the calendar the same way the US Census and the Social Security Administration do for official age reporting:

1. Start with the difference between the current year and birth year
2. If today’s month is earlier than the birth month, subtract one year and add 12 months
3. If today’s day of month is earlier than the birth day, subtract one month and add the number of days in the previous month
4. Any remaining days are the exact day count

This walk-through method handles every edge case — February in a leap year, March 1 following a February 29, and so on — without off-by-one errors.

• The Chinese zodiac uses solar-year approximation. True Chinese astrological zodiac uses the lunar calendar (Chinese New Year), which falls between late January and mid-February. If precision matters for your birthday near that date, cross-check with a lunar-calendar converter.
